Hallo all! I've been talking to someone who gathers seaweed for use on their plot, I know it's a common nutrient source, but is it eco friendly just to lift it off the beach and what about the not so nice aspects of our north sea coast, any thoughts before I head of to Cleethorpes.

Basically you can't just go and help yourself.  You must have the landowner's permission.

My husband has a fishing trawler and seaweed comes up in the nets. I have checked with our Dept of Marine and he can keep it on board and bring it home, so I have that end covered off but I haven't a clue what to do with it!  Do I need to wash it in fresh water?  Do I compost it with other compost or should I keep it separate?  Can I put it directly onto the beds in the winter?  Are there any crops that don't like it?

It can just be layed on the surface - they do at Heligan gardens.

I use it as mulch, no need to was it.  It's really good on clay soil.  It dries to not much so pile it on quite thick...
