Lawn Zing
« on: July 04, 2013, 18:03 »
I live in a row of 4  houses and we share our outside lawn. which must be about 80m long ,20m each. we have just all paid to have it relawned with rolls of grass and very nice it is to  :)

I havent a hose pipe at home so i have bought my watering can back and my section takes about a dozen watering cans and trips to the kitchen sink to water, i notice no one else is watering theres but im sure it will be ok. My wife and i where just talking about it and she said if you are looking after ours why dont you find out what grass really likes and give it a 'treatment' every now and again and see if we can get our section sparkling healthy and green for a bit of fun. So she has given me the challenge!

Help i dont know much about treating lawns for the added sparkle! would it like a comfrey tea? i can do that lol.
Any ideas of what gives grass that added zing please let me know  :D

Cheers MW.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Lawns are leaves so like nitrogen.  However, you want to stop feeding with nitrogen before the end of the season because the soft, sappy growth which is stimulated by the nitrogen won't be strong enough to cope with the winter ravages.

I don't know when you should stop feeding though.  There is an autumn lawn feed which is properly proportioned to strengthen the lawn for winter.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

From an agricultural perspective I would grass nothing after the beginning of September  :)
I cook therefore I grow

Hi Brave , and thanks. Ive got myself a bag of sulphate of ammonia from the allotment shop this morning. It cost 55p and looks like a bag of small white crystals  the guy couldn give me any instructions of dosage or how to use it.
Any suggestions? If not i will just have a light sprinkle round tonight and water in.
Will keep everyone informed of any extra zing in my patch lol

Yeah that's it a light sprinkle its really potent stuff.

I bet you will have to cut your lawn 3 times more than the others :-)

I'd dilute a small amount into the water, rather than the other way round - spreads it more easily.
