Hi, have recently moved and am trying to identify trees and plants in the new garden! This tree took ages to grow leaves this spring and still has some bare branches so looks like has something wrong with it

Any thoughts what species it is and what may be the problem?

Could it be a Robinia? I love them. No idea what the problem might be though, sorry.

yes looks like a Robinia to me,has it got 'thorns on it? If so a definite yes. As for not leafing up I don't know leave it a bit longer & then consider pruning it to get  rid of those ones & create a good shape. Look online when to prune & how.

I would say that is Robinia.

Usually die back on the upper reaches of a tree and ends of branches is linked to root damage of some sort.  Has there been any digging or ground disturbance near the tree?

Great! Thanks very much. From a quick google its definately robinia and apparently the problems ours has are very common especially after the last few wet years.
