Title: New Bird(s)
Post by: Prod on August 09, 2012, 10:48
I recently bought 2 new birds to add to my original 5 as one of them has a tumour and has stopped laying but I dont want to cull her yet. This week I lost one of my original 5 girls (see Lost Bernard Post)  I would like to get the number back up to 8 (inc my cockerel)  as thats the maximum for the coop. Would it be OK to add just one (I only bought th e2 new ones a fortnight ago)  I know everyone recomends 2 at a time  but 9 birds would be cramping them I think......

Would that be 9 birds including the one that will soon have to be culled?  Will you be buying the bird/s from the same supplier as your 2 new girls?

even if using the same breeder check their current birds over thoroughly as even they can get illnesses.

Hey. Adding only one means it recieve all stress of the pecking order. Adding two would share the loadndd may may make it slighty easier for the hens to join the peckin order
