Bought loads of hardy fuchsia's last year, got them in the ground last September, can't see any signs of life at all, just look like twigs, is that normal for this time of year?, am seeing small signs of life everywhere in the garden, except my flowerbeds...
(can you tell i'm new to fuchsias?!)
-
No panic yet - they are fairly late into leaf :)
-
I agree the ones I overwintered in the greenhouse have just started to show but outside not much at all ,we get a bit of sun and we just can't wait . :D
-
Last year I thought I'd lost mine cos they didn't show any new growth until May - so yes lots of waiting before you see them again ;)
-
Do not know whether this is good or not - but mine started to come into leaf at the end of February - hopefully we will not get a bad frost.
-
Excellent, I shan't worry about them yet, have planted loads of diffrent coloured fuchsias and can't wait to see how they look, they were quite small last year when I got them so I'm hoping they will grow and fill up the space provided quite quickly...
-
Oh, one more thing, should I prune them? there just sticks but some of them have grown into a funny shape and I would like to change that..
-
wait till they start to grow and you can see which bits are alive and which bits are dead.
Easier to prune back to a living bud I think ;)
-
Excellent, thanks for all your help... :)

I kept my half-hardy potted fuschia outside all winter except when we had a bit of severe frost last month, and a few leaf buds are now just starting to slowly break. It's still a bit early for fuschias to show any activity.

Not only is my Fuchsia in full leaf it now has one (just one :) ) flower. What crazy weather we have had this winter.

One has just started sprouting tiny green leaves at the base...its a start....

I overwintered four tender ones in large pots in the greenhouse. This is the first time I've done this... three have burst back into life - just waiting on the fourth :) Am well chuffed :D
Back on topic... the one in my garden has deteriorated since planting three years ago... not sure if it's going to appear this year or not. Might need to investigate...

Just ended up having to move a couple of the fuchsias I planted last year and the roots are still in pot shape, they haven't settled into the soil at all since I planted them, hopefully they will this year..
-
It may help them settle better if you tease out some of the outer roots from the pot shape so they are looser
