Title: Got the tools now need the weather to cool
Post by: Oliveview on August 10, 2006, 21:30
Had a good shop at Lidl today and got some gardening tools, just need the weather to cool down so I can plant.  We moved to a bungalow type house 6 weeks ago and the orchard is full of fruit trees but there is room for veggies.  The well for watering is very low (luckily there is no restrictions on watering here) but that means town water, which is metered.  At least the well water level is rising, soon we will be ablt to use it for watering.  Any suggestions as to a good veg to grow for a beginner?
Winter temps are cool at night but warm during the day.

Have you got a spare room?
Anyway, salad stuff. Cabbages, broccoli, and overwintering leaves, french beans might work.
But clearly you could be up for oranges and lemons.
Good luck

I wonder if you would be able to grow late potatoes?

Hi Oliveview,  if you want a few seeds of lots of things, I could send you some and just try out and see what grows and what doesn't over there in sunny spain in the middle of August!!!!

We have plenty of orange trees and 2 lemon.  I almost set fire to a lemon tree.... it will recover I am sure!
It is trying to find seed potatoes that will be fun.  I have some runner bean seeds (thanks GrannieAnnie) so will plant them, I am sure they will do better over the autumn into ´winter´ than spring into summer.
