Title: Growlights
Post by: Jamie Butterworth on September 19, 2010, 14:06
Planning on growing onions from show for next year, would there be any benefit in using a grow light to start them off on Christmas day?

You are really getting into the technical stuff now.
Some growers are using LEDs as a source of light as they are cheaper to run.
A google search might reveal the answers and equipment that you need.

here are my thoughts on led's...... :tongue2:

it is very new tech and not really got the power for the price they cost. if i where you or anyone i would buy a 30watt CFL light for around 3 pound + the fittings for around 5 pound wire it up and use that. even if you get 2 of them at 30watt each or 2 of them at 15watt each you can then get both light spectrums if your also wanting them to go to flower but 2700 spectrum is ok for the veg stage......

ps 30watt cfl = 1900lum witch is alot more then 430 that the 20 odd pound led light gives and a heck of a lot cheaper

if you need to know anything about lighting just ask and ill help the best i can its one thing i have a little knowledge about lol

I have a grow light , it cost £155 and the bulbs are £40 but they do cover vegative state and flowering.

A friend of mine bought a cheaper light and its terrible so i had to lend him mine.
