Title: Worming preventive?
Post by: Jae Dawn on August 10, 2010, 16:38
Hi,

The breeder I purchased from said she has wormed the new chicken's I purchased from her.  They seem alot younger then she said they were so I am doubting the worming thing but at the same time I don't want to give them anything harsh again if it has been down either.

They seem so young that I thought maybe a preventive measure would be an idea.  I have read on here several ideas garlic and apple cider vinegar.  What do you think I should use on very young chickens was told they were 6 and 8 weeks.

Think they seem 4-6 weeks really but they are polands and little anyway so not sure one hasn't gotten her feathers in as yet really still has the chick fluff on her neck and a few (very few) grown up feathers just starting to grow on her back and tail.  Thank you all!

You really don't need to worm then until they are about 6 months old

Okay that sounds wonderful but is there anything to do to prevent before the six months?

they should be fine as unlike puppies and kittens they aren't born with worms. The only time I would be worried about them getting worms when very young is if you know you have a bad infestation in the flock at the moment, however if your other chickens are wormed regularly then this shouldn't be the case  :)

Actually they are the only ones I have.  I am just trying to be cautious and diligent so they stay healthy.  I think they might have them but not sure... their poo kind of looks like it might have had worms or it could be just the way the poo not every poo does it look just a very rare few.  Again think I am reading too much into it but thought it there was a preventive kind of thing I should be doing well just wanted to know it.  New mother here!  hahah
