Some of my strawberry plants have loads of leaves covering the fruit so much so that the leaves are shading the fruit from the sun.
Do I need to cut back the leaves to allow the fruit to ripen?

No idea what everyone else does or if its right but but I do ;)

I've never bothered and I always get lots of ripe berries. To cut now would stress the plant since after fruiting old leaves will turn dark and they must be cut off. To do it now means you might cut off this year's needed leaves.
