Title: Lone Chick
Post by: Fen on March 18, 2007, 20:46
Hatched just one Maran chick (Lonely) in incubator from 15 eggs four weeks ago. (Cockerel a bit inactive in early Feb and only a few of my 20 hens laying) Other eggs were infertile. Have kept chick under heat lamp, pick it up as often as possible but is obviously lonely. Have 15 eggs due to hatch in 3 days. When and if can I pop Lonely in with the others. Will put their boxes next to each other so that at least he can hear the new hatch next door. Any advice welcomed.

stick a furry toy or plastic bird in with it .they seek comapny to get warmth ./ you can put em together when the others hatch but keep an eye on the biggun

That happened to me last year so  I went to buy couple of day old chicks to go with it. Ended up buying 5! All different breeds, they have always stuck together and do look a funny group wandering around. Most unlikely sole mates 8)
