advice please
« on: May 01, 2009, 20:50 »
Hello all,
A little advice please.  As the week has progressed our girls have become more and more daring Miss Farrow has trouble written all over her.   Just recently she has noticed our  greenhouse and has been pecking at the glass like a child looking in a sweet shop window!  over the last hour she has been hopping about craning her neck and looking like she is going to attempt to jump onto  the ridge of it.  I have had to put them back in the run as i am worried that she will end up going through the glass.  any solutions please?  thanks  adele

Whenever I water my plants in the greenhouse, the ducks outside go mad. They bang/peck the glass trying to get at the water running down the glass. Bonkers!!
I may take my time.....but i'll get there in the end.

They won't be able to get to the ridge of the greenhouse if their wings are clipped adele

I have always found that If I clip one wing not both it makes it even harder for them to fly!!  the only down side is that it also makes it harder for them to escape from Mrs Fox!

would have thought she would do much damage to the green house even if she did get up there?  I was trying to break a pane the other day and it took quite a boot to be sucessful

My greenhouse, old and rickety as it is, has withstood large tomcats making free with its roof for years. I reckon a hen would do no damage. Mine go mad when I'm in the greenhouse, it juts into the hen run and I always have an interested audience.

My Martha always cranes her neck, i wish i now called her Dora as she is such an explorer! I think that is what your girlie is doing, just checking everything out. She will be fine. Enjoy. ;)

In my experience, it doesn't matter wether you have a plot the size of Pennsylvania, if you fence something off and they can't get to it it will become an obsession with them!

I gave over an entire field to my chooks but because I had fenced off a large building that we were using as a walkers hostel ALL my birds (geese, ducks, chooks OH and the goats!) thought there was a pot of gold in there, somewhere, and wore away the grass around the perimeter trying to get in!

NUTS!
