Rabbit has a new run (topic with photos!!)
« on: May 27, 2010, 17:40 »
Hi everyone,

My DIY Dad has just finished building a new run for my rabbit called Minty  :happy:.
Minty lives inside my house, but on nice days, we put her in her run outside.
We are thinking of buying some young chicks, so the run can be used for them and their broody mum during the daytime too  :D.

It's exciting for us because it's lovely to see Minty being able to stretch her legs!
The dimensions for it are:
Length= approx 4m
Width= approx 1m
Height= approx 1m

It would be interesting to hear what you all think of her new run.

Here's a photo of Minty in her run:

It looks great! I bet she's enjoying the change of scene :) Just be careful she doesn't dig though or she'll be out in no time. If you see her starting then put mesh underneath (the grass will grow through). I'm growing nasturtiums up my rabbit run for shade and so my bun can nibble.

My mum and dad used to breed and show rabbits when I was young (they won loads of cups and rosettes)- we always had about 30 and I had to clean them out so sorry rabbits really don't do it for me  :lol:

nagging works wonders - especially if you do it in such a way that they think it's their idea  :lol:

so Pretty chick do we get any close up photos of this Minty? details of breed and age etc? Is he/she on their own in this coup or do they have a friend in there? Rabbits get on quite well with guinea pigs so I have been told  :)

Minty is an 18 month hoto. She is a rescue rabbit. We have been thinking of getting her a guinea pig friend  :).

Here's a photo of her:

Really?  :ohmy:
Lots of people have told me that rabbits and guinea pigs get along fine. I'll ask at my local pet shop.

Your vets is the place to ask...a pet shop will tell you anything to get a sale! Rabbits and guinea pigs have completely different nutritional needs. Guinea pigs need far more vitamin C in their diet than rabbits, if they dont get it , it results in all kinds of problems. Also, rabbits get easily irritated with the pigs and kick them, causing sometimes fatal injuries

If you dont want to ask your vet, (a phone call costs nothing) try doing a bit of research. You should do that before getting an animal. Lots of people will tell you they eep them together without problems, suppose it depends if you want to take that risk

Oh, okay  :)

I don't need to do any research on keeping rabbits, but Minty is due to have her yearly vaccinations anytime now, so will ask the vet if he thinks rabbits and guinea pigs get along.
