Weed Control
« on: August 22, 2024, 10:23 »
Seeing John's note on weed control, I have been using a mix of white vinegar, salt and WUL on my drive. So far it seems to be working but I have no long term experience of this mix. Anyone used this method for long term and how effective do they find it?

So what about using it on the allotment? I guess OK for the edges but not the growing soil!

Thanks.

Yes, you have to be very careful where the spray goes

Hello plesee please please before spraying any un approved product on any allotment check with the allotment management that it can be used also do a written  risk assessment (which I have to do every time I spray ) look for water course no spraying within 5 metres unless you have a PA1a and PA6a aqua spraying licence, a written note needs to be kept of the time the date, wind speed  area sprayed ,product ,amount of product ,,try and get a warning sign that says spraying in progress and let people know that spraying is going to take place with in so many days eg spraying here within 21 days that covers you if any one has an allergic reaction to spray products    jezza

Isn't that reaction, just a tad over the top for someone using "white vinegar, salt and washing up liquid" which many people use, on their paths jezza?
It's not like the strong commercial weedkiller sprays, that you might use?

You may think its over reaction ,how many people actually measure the products out be fore applying Whitr vinegar is Acetic acid I use it in its strong form for pavement cleaning 3 to 1 ratio can be used in water for blanket weed control but has to be exact as it can kill pond life if to strong, I have never used salt as weedkiller so cant say what it does washing up liquid is an adjuvant and now comes under the MAPP (Minisrerialy Approved Pesticide Product )if added to herbicides fungicides insecticides molescicides thesrcare alk under the classification of pesticides ,dont want any one getting a big fine(uptoĢ50,0000) if using un approved products     jezza

weed control to me is very important to me on my allotments because i have the opinion be it right or wrong that  clean weed free ground is an beneficial part of achieving good veg cropping so I always spray any ground that has been harvested when weeds start to appear before I plough or cultivate  the ground using roundup and I've found its kept both perennial and annual weeds at bay

although we still have some annual weed they are manageable but the less weeds means veg  are not in competition with weeds giving  crops a better chance to grow but I do understand using chemicals is not everyone choice and I respect there stance on this that is just my way of working
