This must be one of those things like Marmite - either you love it or hate it.

Had some fresh out of next-door's garden the other night and it just blew me away. It was yummy.

Look it up in John's book and he's obviously not very keen. Demanding, hard to grow, needs attention, watering and weeding. Must be difficult to wax poetical about a vegetable if you don't like it.
Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

Well, I generally ignore them, as one of the least demanding crops, plenty else needs loads of your time.

Go for it, if you like them. :)

Just a bit of hoeing & watering when really dry - that's all I do.

Does it taste like fennel? Im growing that from some plants someone gave me, but Ive never tasted it (except the tops) so Im not sure I like that either!!

I'll try and find some plants - too late for seed John says. It does taste like celery, but fuller, more rounded flavour.

That stuff that tastes like fennel - I think you'll find it's - er - fennel

Yes, I prefer it cooked, use a lot in casseroles.
