It all depends on whether you're organic, or non organic
mrsR, flowergirls method is the organic way, slug pellets are the non organic way, but are more effective :)  :)

My mum goes out every night with a torch and a tub of salt - she says it gives her a great deal of satisfaction to watch them shrivel up!!  I never knew she had a nasty streak like that!!  But i suppose after spending all day being nice to difficult customers it gets rid of her pent up anger without taking it out too much on my dad!

I also heard something about a beer trap (or was that wasps?)  Seems like a waste of good beer to me!

Pellets and stamping or I feed the to the hens, if they come from the non pelleted areas of the garden.

I've got some beer traps but the slugs seem to have gone off the Tesco Value lager which is only 2% ABV. I'm told they prefer Grolsch.

I use nematodes and frogs.  The frogs is a new additional method that has been introduced during this wet weather, found him hopping about inside my strawberry cage and have absolutely zero slug damage but some damp damage.  Not sure how he got in there though!  Must have been living under the black weed fabric before the cage went up.

My neighbour on the next plot trys to be organic but she got fed up of the slugs eating her strawberrys. She cut the bottom off a flat sided plastic  bottle, put slug pellets in and next day had loads of died slugs in it. good idea? kept slug pellets dry as well.No mess, nothing to handle, just tapped the dead slugs in to bucket and disposed of them.

I tried salt - it was the only thing I had when I spotted some eating my marigolds - well marigolds don't like salt either.
