chooks not laying
« on: August 30, 2011, 21:57 »
Poppy is moulting so she has an excuse, but 2 others havn't laid in weeks and Speckles is intermittent. These 3 moulted last winter. I think the chooks are about 3/4 years old. They had been staying at my sister's until 2/3 weeks ago with her 2 chooks. They also don't seem as greedy with the pellets I bought. They also like to roam around the garden and have a good scratch around. Snowy has produced shelless wind eggs. They have seperate grit and oyster shell.
Any suggestions?

If they are hybrids they have done well to lay for as long as they have. If not they may be upset at the move back from your sisters. If they are not laying they will not eat as much food as they don't need it and they are probably filling up in you rgarden as well. The shelless eggs can indicate a bird coming to the end of its laying life. You are right to offer grit and shell separately. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
