[Beetroot queen]

We planted six different fruit trees last year as a half hearted effort to make the children eat more fruit, the plum tree and cooking apple tree (hope they dont have a "proper name" I will look a complete ding bat otherwise) are doing very well and are producing fantastic fruit.

BUT and its a big one, the pear and apple tree look ill, the apple more so. The leaves look crumpled and brown and have done all summer, it has produced about 30 apples which were very bitter.

It just looks sick. We havent done anything fancy to them I guessed they would just do there own thing.  :?

I was going to take a branch into the garden center shop but my dad said they will laugh at me  :oops:

Can you take a piccie and post it on here ? it will probably be easier for us help you. It is a good idea to take a bit to your local garden centre they should be able to help.  

The apples that where bitter, try leaving on the tree next year for longer some ripen before others. Do you have a name of the variety ?

No they dont look as bad as that, I will take some pics on the phone.

I do believe they are Katy Apples, so picked after the name of our daughter  :?

The pics of thread blight which also looks like fire blight which affects both apples and pears. Quince is a member of the apple/pear family I believe ?

Bung a pic up if you can and a pic of the fruit if it has any and its diseased.
Don't know much about quince to be honest but there's always google

Might try a hard prune of the diseases bits (well most of it on that basis) and see what that does. No fruit this year as they all dropped off when tiny.

This is some of the early affected leaves, they are worse now :cry:

Looks a lot like apple scab disease which can affect several types of fruits. This fungus spreads in cool wet springs by wind. As the infected leaves fall, pick them all up and burn so the disease can't spread more spores. And definitely take a branch and variety name (determines treatment) into your local garden centre for their recommendation and  what you'd be comfortable using. There's really no organic methods to control it.

Took our branch to the garden shop, very helpful it was indeed.

The tree has been attacked by leaf miner and a bad case of white fly, it was sprayed yesterday and any fallen leaves will be burnt as and when

i planted a Queens cox this year and it has been attacked by leaf miner and scab, looks a bit of a mess for its first year on the lot!  Oh well that's life.
