parsnips

Dear Group Members,

I had two rows of Parsnips going. There were quite a few missing at the end of both lines but otherwise they looked OK. I thinned them out (because I put five seeds at each station) but didn't pay a visit for a few days owing to the rain. Well, lots of them have been wiped out by slugs, I presume. I didn't think the vermin would touch parsnips. Anyhow, I have lots of gaps. Any suggestions about what I can put in their stead?

I had something similar happen to me at home. A bit of mystery in fact. I did have a couple of parsnip and carrot seedlings in pots. They completely disappeared!! Now I have no parsnips :cry: My guess was birds as they completely disappeared rather than just bits eaten.

Is it possible to grow parsnips in pots before putting them out?

Don't think so
The long root thing isn't a transplantable 'good idea'
Put another long term root veg in
Celeriac
Swede
etc

Sorry did I confuse anyone? I meant they were in very large pots to grow where they were.
