Hercules onions
« on: January 10, 2011, 23:51 »
I bought Hercules onion sets before Christmas, but was surprised to see they should be planted Feb - March. (OK I should have read more carefully before I ordered )
So they are sitting in my unheated spare room. Would they be better off potted into 3inch pots and kept in the greenhouse, to give them a head start, or should I leave them and hope that I can put them out in February.
Thanks

Elaine

Personally I don't mess about pre rooting in pots, but there again I plant about 300 sets.

If it were me and they're not sprouting yet, I'd leave them. However, if they are showing signs of life I would be tempted to pot them up to prevent them shrivelling.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks DD. No sign of sprouting yet so I will watch and see how they go.
