All last season & over the winter I've been worrying about where I can get enough manure for our two plots. We had a trailer load last year and I picked up a couple of car boot fulls from 20 miles away, but that was about it.

But today on the way to my lotty, I saw some plastic sacks on the side of the road - hoping it may have been poo I stopped - it was fresh horse poo, no straw, & written on the back of an ice cream container lid, "Free manure, please bring the bags back"

So I took the five that were there, and tipped them out into a pile in the corner of the plot to rot down. Shortly after, the guy on the neighbouring plot turned up. I told him about my good fortune, to which he replied "you can take as much of the well rotted stuff as you like off my pile, I'll be bringing another trailer load down in the next month or so".

On my way home I stopped to drop off the empty bags, & a guy in the field came over. I thanked him for the manure & explained the difficulty I'd had getting it up to now. He explained that they produce about 10 bags a day & told me what time they put it out, but then went on to say he had about a tonne of year old well rotted stuff down the field, and I was welcome to the lot if I want to collect it. Sorted
