Flubenvet 1%
« on: December 10, 2008, 11:12 »
I now have 3 hens and I want to give them Flubenvet so I've bought the Flubenvet 1% medicated premixture.  That is the easy bit!!!
I'd like to give them the wormer each day in the mixed corn I give them every morning, but .................... I can't figure out how much to put in the corn each day.
I feed the layer pellets by filling up the feeders which lasts several days as I don't want to be measuring so much food per hen, per day, so they have "ad lib feeding"  so I'd rather give the wormer in their corn each day.

The new 1% formulation should be used at 2.5 times this dose rate of the previous formulation calculated as follows:

The 240g tub is 2.5% flubendazole
The 60g tub is 1.0% flubendazole

The correct dose rate for a medium sized chicken of the 2.5% formulation was 0.12g per day.

I follows therefore that the dose rate for the 1% formulation would be 0.12 x 2.5 = 0.3g per day = 2.1g total for the 7 day treatment.

The scoop enclosed in the pack measures out approx. 6 grams and would therefore be enough to treat 3 hens for 7 days.

Divide that up as you find easiest  :D

Hi Colliebird. I just put a small pinch of Flubenvet on a little bit of bread and give one to each hen each day. The difficult bit is making sure one bossy bird does not get all 3 doses. I would like to do it more accurately though. I did not get a scoop with my Flub which I bought some time ago. Where could I get one from Aunty? How big is it inside? How many mls?

Do you have the 60g 1% or the older 240g 2.5% formulation ?

Do read the Worming article in the Poultry Information Section of the forums.
