celeriac help please
« on: May 12, 2008, 15:56 »
Hi.  am growing celeriac for the first time.  The seeds took weeks to germinate, and plants are still only about 1/2" tall, although they are starting to develop a leaf the shape of celery.  They've been growing in a cold greenhouse in pots, and are still way to small to go out.  Any suggestions as to what I've done wrong and if its too late to sort them out?  Thanks v much

They're fine - don't panic. They're not much behind mine & they'll soon go this weather.

I take it they are individually potted & not crowing each other?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mine too ... never grown them before ... was amazed how long they took to germinate! But also discovered they liked it quite cool to do so!

Anyway they are now pricked out and sitting in the cold frame!  Also only 1" tall!

After this much trouble they ain't going out till they are bomb proof !!!!!!!!!!!

Good idea Flowerlady, as the slugs quite like them.

Not much you can do Sun, as DD says they are quite slow starters. You can sow them sooner next year, meanwhile enjoy the thought that they are not leggy.

Cheers folks, thanks very much.   So glad I'm not the only one.  It's been such a funny spring so far, and everything else was coming on in leaps and bounds since we've had my kind of weather :D
