Hello Everyone

One of my girls is pulling her feathers out and the back of her neck is completely bare. She looks nearly as bad as when i got her (ex Batt)

I have done a search for moult but not found anything of use.

Is this normal? My other girls is picking at her feathers a bit but nothing like as bad.

Hmm - I've had similar issues before.  It could be there's something bothering her so check for lice etc.  Not really time of year perhaps but worth looking.

When we had mass feather pecking I fed them kitten food (advise from someone on this forum) which seemed to work - quite often feather pecking is due to lack of protein in diet.  Boosting this can stop it.

I'm sure others will add better potential causes but from my experience this is what I'd say...

If she is generally looking shabby I would say she is going through a full moult.  This is normal.

Hi, a few of mine are going through a moult, but one of mine always seems to have a feather in her mouth,I thought she was pulling her feathers out, but when ive watched her, she is actually just preening herself and removing the loose feathers!....As ruffle says...its normal
