And there's nothing wrong with being a big girl   Lots of us are proud to be. Caring never a bad thing
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Thanks Aunt Sally, I've managed to use one of those wooden cuticle tools girls have....don't know what they're called? It fits under her beak enough to get leverage on the lower beak and open it up. The poor girls that lethargic she's not giving a fight!

Just wondering now on how much flubenvet would be best?

Hi Mickwood,
Sorry about your hen!
Dont worry though, at this stage the most important thing is to keep her isolated, comfortable and hydrated. Aunties recipe is brilliant (obviously) but you can also use something called "Diorylte" available from any chemists used to correct electrolyte inbalance, which would happen if she has not been drinking much. A friendly chemist I am sure would let you have a syringe as well.
Some warm mash if she will eat it would be good too mixed with a little natural yogurt.
What does her crop look like? If its empty she hasn't been eating-does she feel hot or cold? Any other symptoms?
It would be really good to find out any health problems his birds might have. I am wondering if she has something that has been dormant until the stress of moving has brought it on.
Keep an eye on her droppings a big clue to what may be going on and keep us all posted!

Echo what Foxy says.

Can you phone the supplier when you've given her a good drink Mick ?  They may be able to tell you if she has ever been wormed and if any of their other birds have the same problem !

Don't forget to send them the bill for whatever it costs you !!!

She doesn't feel to warm, I've put her in a box with a towel wrapped around her. Her crop feels empty and I know she hasn't eaten for a day at the very least! (She hasn't moved out of the house all day!)

Just spoke to the supplier. She was wormed 6 weeks ago (flubenvet) and was frontlined about 3 days before I picked her up? From the set up the guy had, I think he's a good guy who looks after his birds - they all looked healthy - he showed me round them all and I was impressed to be honest.

I'll just keep an eye on her and let you all know how she goes!

Thanks guys  :D

I think you've done all you can for now Mick, you've done brilliantly.  If she's still with you in the morning you must take it from there.

No, from Lancaster originally. Moved here about 8 years ago. Friendliest city I've lived in. They will forgive you for not being a scouser for at least having the sense to move here   The only problem is it's a city and I'm a country girl at heart even if not from breeding
