Ah well worth a thought. Just wondered if the vets in there would be open late. Hugs to you and buttercup Mick

Personally I'd try to rehydrate her and see how she is in the morning.  If she looks like she has a chance get her to the vet tomorrow.`

Am so sorry to hear that buttercup has deteriorated so quickly..at least my girl Maggie who has been off colour is an ex batt so you can expect problems.

Getting water into her will definately be a two person thing...i would really recommend adding sugar as a little energy boost..it definately seems to have helped Maggie.

Hope you manage to get a vet that is not going to charge you the earth.

Am keeping my fingers crossed for you both.  Big hugs from me x

Thanks for all the advice! Looks like the professionals are all letting me down....I've found a technique to open her beak, sorted! Giving her the water/sugar/salt mixn and have managed to put the Flubenvet in her beak as the powder. About a pinch (the daily dose) should I try and get some more flubenvet into her? I'll keep her on my knee and just keep putting a mouthful of water every few minutes.

Fingers crossed!!

I can't believe how upset I am...blooming big girl....my dad was right!

They might know of a vet that's not as expensive  :?

Dioralyte or any sports rehydration drink would be balanced and allow better absorbtion of the water.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

OK Mick

Sit the hen gently on your lap facing to the right (if you're right handed) and wrap a tea towel round her so she can't flap.

Hold her loosly but firmly around the neck (ie don't squeeze) with your left hand, close to her head and straighten her neck out a bit.

Open her beak with your fight hand.

Person number two (wife)  can drop liquid in a little at a time giving her time to swollow.

Being upset is natural. You're just taking responsibility for her care.

Don't let that worry you. You've done brilliantly getting her to accept anything without help.

If you can get some more fluid into her, you'll have exceeded what most of us might have managed alone.

Keep it up  :D

A double dose of flubenvet would do no harm Mick.
