Roughlee, i've had a marvelous idea, post that pic when fat people are about to sit down for dinner, then tell them what it is, you could call it the Gismo weight loss program, works for me.....................

Use your other girls as a comparison for temperature. I would sugest just feeling under her wing near the joint and compare it with then other hens. If she's hotter she may need antibiotics.

Hens that lay double yolked eggs can be prone to a yolk slipping into the body cavity instead of into the fallopian tube. It's called internal laying. She should recover from it as long as it doesn't become infected.

just a note P&RH. You could have a brand new coop and could be infested with red mite in just a couple of weeks......it has happened to me in the past and I was horrifed - my OH had trouble seeing them until I pointed them out. Just a thought I know I am completely neurotic about them.

Roughly, about that photo, i asume you were holding the hen so someone else must have taken the pic, it's just i've got a vision of you knocking on a neighbours door complete with hen and camera and saying "scuse me, would you mind taking our photo"?............................................... :oops:

I took the photo and held the chicken. Chicken was on my lap, camera in macro lens mode, left hand holding tail feathers lightly up and other holding camera. It is easy. Must have looked a right plonker though.

Little speck is still quiet not sure if she has laid either. I now have 6 ladies and her eggs where more a "normal" colour rather than the dark brown. Some one is not producing only 5 eggs Sunday Monday and Tuesday.

Thanks for asking TMG.

After last night I thought she was getting better. But found her asleep (like on the nest not stood up) with her at the feeder!!! She is panting a bit. But she is still eating and Drinking. Tail definitely down may be dropped wing. Took her temp. But took big Specks temp first noticed that her vent is alot smaller and watching little Speck her vent is constantly pulsing. Quite concerned. Any ideas?

Do you know if she's laid today?

I have noticed with mine thier bottoms "wink" alot more just before or after a poopsie, not that I study these things
