I'm almost finished making our chook hutch for the girls that are coming on the 7th and I'm at the point of deciding how large the hole/doorway should be between the main livingroom/bedroom and the cosy dark nesting box on the side..... I've read that a single hole into the nesting box is good because it keeps it darker and saves their blushes  :oops:
But I have no idea how large it needs to be to let the girls in there?
We are getting 2 bovin neras, 1 amber and a grey one i can't remember the breed.... please forgive the spelling. They are hybrids and the lady says they are the larger sort.
Can anyone help please?

I am guessing the same size as the pop hole into the outdoors would be ideal

I've made our nest box open to the main coop without any dividers or anything, and it is used happily by them all. No idea how many get in there at once because if we open the lid, we get dirty looks, and they can fly outside the run.  :roll:

But as long as it's reasonably subdued lighting and out of the way, I would think they'll be happy.

Mine just open at the front with some "curtains" of hessian to make it that little dimmer, not unusual to find 3 hens all sitting together  :roll:
