Hi, guys.

Just bought a flymo cultivator with a B&S 5HP engine off ebay. It goes, and seemed to be complete, but the cables are all a bit Heath-Robinson. I found this wonderful site while searching online for a manual, and the machine looks almost identical to the one in the Norlett manual which some kind soul has uploaded.

However, I have a couple of questions:

1. Although the main drive pulley has only one belt it has two belt grooves, and although there are fittings for a control on the left side, there is no control or cable. In the Norlett manual, the left control and the other drive belt would be for reverse. Is reverse worth having, or should I not bother trying to fix it?

2. Can anyone recommend a reliable supplier for spares such as cables and belts?

According to my local garden machinery specialist spares for these Norlett / Flymo machines are thin on the ground as they were priced out of the market when we joined the common market as the machines were made in norway(not part of the c/m) so attracted an additional £200 tax on top of the original £600 purchase price.
Few units imported means few spares required!
It sounds like you have the basic model which only had forward drive

As for cables try a cycle repair shop for the cables & outers then make your own with the old end fittings & adjusters
