Can anyone recommend a decent type of baking pan please?
We usually buy the metal non-stick sort, and of course, they lose all the surface very quicly, then start to rust, then get chucked out...
I ruined a whole set once, by soaking them in oven cleaner, but there must be some which last longer surely...?

Tins - I looked at that post for ages, and couldn't see where I went wrong! Thank you!
They used to come from Sainsbury's. but as we don't shop there any more, (they told us that if we couldn't become woke, we could shop elsewhere, so we do), but our shops are too small to stock them!

;) I suspect your conversation was along the same lines as I have with the delivery staff I have every time they bring things here.
I switched to silicone inside the metal tins or non-stick foil such as bacofoil for a lining. foil goes in the bin silicone goes in the dishwasher. I use old fashioned tins which can then be cleaned with a brillo and some elbow grease. Non-sticks is all well and good but none of it (at least that which I have bought) last very long at all. Perhaps the stupidly expensive stuff does?

We often uses a glass or ceramic dish, and then stand it in a tin, as getting two hands around a small red-hot baker is sometimes a bridge too far, so the whole lot comes out before the shrieks of pain can erupt...

I would highly recommend "Mermaid" They're not cheap but I have some, the main one being a huge roasting tin bought in the 90s
They're hard anodised and take a lot of abuse :ohmy: :)

We have just one, Wighty, and it's about the right size for a 'shepherds' etc.!
I even ooked at those thick foil ones in the supermarket the other day...
...dunno why really, I'd like them to last more than one session!

I mostly use Pyrex myself, but some things just have to go into a traditional baking tin.
For a non-stick tin, the best I have found is a german maker called Zenker.
I use their rectangular and round springforn tins for cakes and bread and the non-stick surface and tins are as good as new. Been using for a good decade or more now.
Nothing ever sticks to it and its always just been a quick wipe over.
For the tough and very sticky things like flap jack or a fruity type cake, I always just use a pyrex dish and line it with greaseproof baking paper. I've found the best paper is the Asda own brand. Have tried many other greaseproof papers and found they are not as good.

Ten years is a long time for such items really, they do get chucked around quite a bit, and usually end up as sumps for changing the oil on the mower... (Old wheeze):0)
