Do Peppers seedlings do better with extra warmth?
« on: March 28, 2010, 20:41 »
All my peppers have sprouted nicely and are indoors on a windowsill with plenty of light and tinfoil on the back. I can see the beginning of the first true leaves...
Since they like warmth, would it help them grow better if I kept them in the same sunny position, but put them back in the propagator (without the lid) so they can get more heat from the bottom? And if so, what sort of temperature?

I've started my seedlings off in trays in the conservatory, and not in a propagator, and are doing fine.  I'll keep them until it warms up a bit, then replant them in the black pots (the ones you get in Morrisons - 8 for 99p, and then put them in the greenhouse.

They'll be fine indoors without going back in the propagator :)

Once it warms up (if it ever does  ::) ) they will really get going.

I am trying peppers this year and they have germinated on the window sill. I will bring them on indoors until the summer. I have limited space in my leanto greenhouse. Will they grow outdoors. The patio area is well sheltered and has the sun on it all day.

Your patio area will give them the best possible chance but I find peppers a bit marginal outdoors and would try and keep at least one of the plants in the greenhouse in case we have another duff summer!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Thank you jayG: We eat a lot of peppers during the year and it seems logical to grow them. It's one of those things that I will have to try out for myself.
