A strange year; parsnips and potatoes?
« on: November 03, 2022, 09:49 »
My parsnips still have all their foliage and we haven't had a frost yet so I have let them be. However yesterday I noticed that they are putting out fresh new growth  Do I leave them until after the first good frost so that they taste good or pull them because new growth will damage the crop?

Same for my Jazzy potatoes. With storage space at a premium I left them in their containers to use as needed but they started growing . I pulled them and put them in bags in the cellar but they have continued to grow. We have been eating a lot of potato dishes in the last week!!!

It’s the dreaded global warming I suspect.
Someone on the news was saying plants and animals are confused by the high temperatures at present.
Keep digging

Just leave them until you want them. I’ve harvested a couple already and they are fine, not as sweet as after a good few frosts, but a welcome addition. Doubt the new growth signals much more than they are still growing due to the weather.
