Piping for netting
« on: June 04, 2011, 22:18 »
Hi all
I am relatively new to the allotment scene.  I am trying to find out where I can get some cheap piping that I could build a frame to put the nets over the veg.  Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks
Andy

If you see workmen installing waterpiping, eg new housing estates, you can ask if they have any cutoffs they don't want. You could also check your local freecycle. I got mine at a charity shop as they were leftovers from some work project and was donated.

That sounds like a handy local knowledge tip Nige. :)

Agree with Tillium  ;)

I got nearly a whole roll of the stuff off a building site, they only used about 3m off a full roll (about a 30m x 32mm roll), and was going to skip the rest!!

Keep looking, don't buy it unless it's the absolute last resort.

Oh the joys of skip diving!!  ::)

You need to learn to cadge.
It's not a bad thing and you could be helping someone out by disposing of unused items!
Always ask first, as nicely as you can.

Although it goes against the rules of allotmenting (buying stuff)... I bought 25mmx50m from Screwfix for £30 - it is really nice stuff to work with and found that 2m loops in a row work nicely for covering courgettes etc. Wickes were the same stuff but want £18 for 25m.

Cheers

I know the mods keep asking, but could people please put their locations into their profile please.

Why?....

I've just got THREE full rolls of pipe out of a skip this week!! And yes I did ask first.

So, I maybe able to help someone out with any excess I have.
