Hi...I'm a newbie keeper love my hens which potter around freely but there is an area of my land which I need to clear especially nettles etc. Is there a weedkiller safe to use that won't harm my girls?

Glycophosphate (Roundup etc) appears to be pretty non toxic and is what I use. There are studies on it being fed to animals including chickens and it is cleared from them quickly without build up and doesnt get into eggs significantly.

I do however spray relatively small amounts with a hand sprayer on a sunny day carefully onto that which I want to get rid off (currently lords and ladies - and soon bindweed - neither of which my chickens show any interest in eating) and keep the chickens away until it is dry.

since getting my girls my nettles have almost dissapeared (has taken 3 years) - they don't eat them but they scratch them up after grubs
