Cayuga drake is not waterproof

Cayuga drake is not waterproof

My cayuga drake's feathers are not waterproof.Is this common in drakes or is there something wrong with him?

Please do feel free to drop in to the Welcome section and introduce yourself. It's a fairly friendly place and I'm sure someone will come along and give you  a sensible an answer fairly soon.

Personally I know nothing about ducks (?) and thought the question was about some sort of kagool so I was going to say that you can get a spray to re-waterproof them.... then decided I had got hold of the wrong end of the stick  ::)

its called wet feather, keep him away from mud, and when he next moults his new feathers should be waterproof

Sometimes they get wet feather if they are not preening properly which they usually do after a bath. Lots of fresh water will encourage him if this is part of the problem.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
