Allium successes and failures
« on: June 28, 2010, 22:39 »
I seem to have a touch of white onion rot in psrts of the plot. Last year my onions were a disgrace!
This year, on another part of the plot I have zero shallots - all rotted. With a really strange rotten odour - I couldn't decide whether it was foul or pleasant - strangely sweet in a cooked garlic kind of way. The onions are patchy - a good harvest of overwintered reds though some are small and obviously not for keeping long. The garlic, in the same bed, is a triumph. Despite the rust on the stalks I have never seen such juicy plump bulbs.

IF I do have white onion rot is it normally so selective and spare some alliums but not others?
If you can't be an excellent example be a terrible warning...
