Hello people, we have eight chooks, all look fine and one has started to lay eggs, yippee, .... but one has started to walk a bit tottery and sits down a lot even when its eating, I,ve had a feel about and cant find anything obvious, but am new to this 'playing at farmers' her comb is still quite small as they are all about 17-18 weeks old, any ideas would be most welcome, thanks in advance, Nick

Hi Naughty Nick

I'm not really sure either :?

Have you checked her feet & legs over?
What is her co - ordination like?
Is she falling over?
Poops normal?

Sarah :D

Hi Sarah  she seems fine, eating well, poop fine, just seems to walk about two or three feet then plonks down, she looks a little as if she is a really old hen, felt all over her and cant find anything, she doesn't flinch when I prod and poke her and the others are not picking on her at all, in fact some even sit down near her :)

Hi Nick, Welcome to the mad house!!

I have a hen (a black rock) that has been like that since May.  She  drooped her wing on sitting down ,  She lost loads of weight,  Iv'e tried everything, took her to the vets, had a course of anti- biotics, she used to shake on walking, stopped laying, I was on the point of doing the 'deed'.  Then she started laying again, so have left her to it, she has always eaten really well, but has never regained her weight, she doesn't sit down as much now but still looks a little unsure on her feet.  She doesn't droop her wing any longer either.  She has been my best layer this summer
My only assumption is that she injured her legs somehow, it is taking a long time to heal what ever it is.
I know this probably doesn't help you, but someone out there might know what it is.
