Title: Duck sitting

My call duck has been sitting on eggs for about 6 wks am sure there not fertile as i know they only sit for about 4 wks . do i take them away or leave her to realize there not going to hatch ?

Hi Jamima,
I'm no expert but I agree that after 6 weeks the eggs cannot be fertile.  Could you get some day old chicks or ducklings for her to look after as I would think that it can't be good for her to continue sitting.

Definately not going to hatch so it is time to either be cruel to0 be kind and throw her off her nest and try and break her out of her broodiness or provide her with some ducklings. Although hens make good broodies for ducklings, best not give her chicks as she will expect them to be able to swim and mak accidentally drown them by taking them into water.

Decided to be cruel and take her off at the wk end , she's nesting in next doors garden  and  the house is empty .

Well took my eggs away from the duck  they were infertile, she's now back in our garden .
