Rust on Hollyhocks
« on: June 28, 2010, 20:57 »
I am very new to both gardening and veg growing so was a bit slow on the uptake with this!
My Hollyhocks (planted from seed last year) have all developed rust. Some worse than others. I have taken off the dead leaves and pulled the occasional dead plant but it seems to be spreading to my garlic and broad beans.  :(
Will it effect the bulbs and beans? And more importantly will it spread to other veg on the plot?

As I recall it, rust is very host-specific so should not transfer to other types of plants.

And hollyhocks are very rust prone, so i wouldn't worry too much.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
