Hello gardeners,  it says 'ere to sow hardy annuals now in a cold frame or greenhouse.
They will get going before 'winter draws on'.

I think I might give a few a try, after all who needs 500 plus seeds, I'm prepared to sacrifice a few to see if the theory is possible.  What are your thoughts...?
Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Well as the hardy annuals finish for the year, they drop seeds, that might germinate before winter sets in & get going when it warms up but will flower a bit earlier, think about things like Sweet Williams etc, so no different. Also winter pansies, wrongly named in my opinion cos the6 don’t flower during the winter if it’s really cold

I did sweet peas and poached egg plants last year and they overwintered OK despite the Arctic periods.  You've prodded me to have another go - the same plus cornflowers.  Trouble is, off on hols in 3 weeks

I've sown my sweet peas, the idea was they would winter in the greenhouse.  The ghastly weather has finished the greenhouse off, it was on its last legs anyway so where do I put the sweet peas?  My instinct is to put them close to the house and hope but if anyone has any better ideas I'd be grateful.

RHS says it can be done, as well  ::)

Nature sows a lot of seeds in the autumn to over winter.
