Did you mean to run it flat round the outer edge as a skirt Celtbhoy ?

That's simple and effective as long as it's weighted down with something in places.

Yeah like Rob says L shaped off the run as it where about 12" if you can, peg it down with tent pegs

well im planning on erecting a 4ft tall 9ft x 4 ft pen, out of 2''x2'' timber, and totally cover it in wire as to prevent any openings for foxes etc...so do you reckon just pin it very well to the ground all around>>??  oh ok, im planning a top of wire too with a roof of some sort,

The skirt idea seem to work very well with eglu's, so can't see why it won't work for you. Main thing IMHO is to make sure they are secure at night you can then check for any signs of diggin etc. when you open up and again when you lock up, vigilance is the word. I don't know if a fox is clever enough to think "if I dig further back I can get in "

oh cool, so would you recommend wiring the top of run? just in case of visitors throught the day wen im at work?

Yes definitely make it like Colditz pal. Unless your having a solid roof like corrugated platsic sheeting even then I have wire underneath.

re: the wire in the run - we're just making a new run and we dug out about 18inches then put wire in the hole (extended around  the edges of the run) and then filled the hole back in.
the wire came up above the ground level and we encased it in concrete blocks, which are the base of the run.
you could attach it to wooden runners and posts etc instead of concrete: it would be just as good.
