Tomato edible or not
« on: August 30, 2020, 10:18 »
Advice please.  I have quite a few tomatoes with a blemish on the top as shown in the attached picture (Crimson Crush tomato). My wife is reluctant to eat them but I am trying to convince her it is nothing and to just cut off the blemish. I imagine it is caused by a mineral deficiency or such-like. Any thoughts on this please?

At the stalk end? It's likely just a drop of moisture collected there and a touch of mildew started - nothing to worry about , just cut that bit out.
It's a shame that our produce isn't always perfect, but at least we know, what, if anything has been sprayed on them - so they are better for you than shop-bought ones  :)

Blossom end rot if it's at the opposite end to the stalk  - whatever the cause the rest of the fruit looks healthy enough - cut it off and enjoy!  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thanks for your prompt replies. No, it is at the stalk end. I won't mention the word blight to the wife. I don't think it is blight though, as theey are supposed to be nearly blight-resistant and I don't see anything on the leaves.

My Crimson crush often have blemishes at the stalk end and I find a hard bit underneath that I cut out. No ill effects so far!
