Title: Apple Tree Help
Post by: MoreWhisky on November 08, 2014, 14:24
Hi everyone , i have moved into my new house last week, i seem to have an apple tree i know nothing about so any comments on the pictures would be great.

The first picture is what was growing around my tree , looks terrible can anyone identify what it is please ? i do have an idea but saying nothing yet  :(

the next couple of pictures are of this tree, having never looked after trees before how should i proceed with cutting it back abit, im tending to think the newish shoot straight in the middle needs to come off. There where lots of apples on the floor most of them tended to be small. Im thinking this tree needs a hard prune.

Help

Hi there

Taking the middle shoot out sounds like a good idea - following the principle that you should be able to throw a hat through the middle - i like stephen hayes' videos if you havent come across him
