Hello all,

One of our Jersey Giants has started to sit, the problem is she is sitting in the nest box all the others use to lay. Should we risk moving her to another box or just keep taking the eggs away ( 8 a day ) from under her, leaving the couple we've marked to hatch, what will see need ? just food and water ? or will she need space to move around. Maybe we should keep her in a fenced off area of the shed ? How big an area will she need ?

There are allot of questions sorry Is there an idiots guide I could be pointed to ?

You would be better off moving her, as I have found if you leave broodies with the rest, the other hens tend to go broody aswell.

Hi Fire

I always move my broodies to their own house & run. No food in the house area as basically that's just the nest, but food and water in the run. She can then raise the chicks in there safely

She'll need to come off once or twice a day to do the biggest poop in the world and eat and drink and  a dust bath(about 20 mins out normally), some birds will do this on their own others need a shove

Move her in the evening, and take some of the material she's sitting on now with her then she should settle straight back down again
