Why can't I grow raddish ?
« on: July 20, 2009, 21:34 »
Raddish is supposed to be the easiest salad veg to grow, even for kids. Why is it that when I grow them in the right conditions (shade, cool and moisture) they still bolt and produce horrible woody roots ?

Are you picking them early enough?

Also, can recommend the 'cat litter' tray method posted elsewhere here.  I use that in a shady spot and seems to work a treat.

Here's one of me posts on the subject....

Bit more tricky in this warmer weather though.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I got some purple raddish free with a magazine that i threw in just because i had them, i pulled one up at the weekend and it was very woody - the raddish itself was one of the long carrot type ones it was like a long thin carrot and had some heat to it but was so woody.

I've been useless growing radish except for some left over seed I bunged in desperation between some chard. Now have a lovely couple of handfuls to munch on. Wonder if it was because that little bit of soil was sheltered by potato plants.
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!
