I am thinking of having an external nest box made and put on the side of my hen house so that I can make more room inside the house for another perch.
Has anyone added an external nest box to their hen house and was it successful?

All of ours are external Kim, as it gives the chooks more room inside the house! They will be fine once they get used to the fact that its in a different place to where it was before.

You can buy freestanding external nest boxes to add onto existing coops but I can't remember where from.
There was a thread a few months ago from someone who'd done just that.
If you search on google you may come across the firm that sells them.
Good luck

That's it Foxy !!
Wasn't me but I know someone did. I made my own and it was the most interesting bit to make. Lots of nice angles and joints. :D

Thanks for all the info chaps.
I have found a man who will build a nest box and do all the work required including adding a new perch for Freckles, Bossette and the cheeky girls.
So work will begin soon and when its all done I will post some pic’s.
I have drawn my plan with sizes etc………..just need to get cracking now.
Exciting!!:D
