Title: Ryobi Strimmer
Post by: radiohead on August 29, 2012, 07:27
Hi all,
Just bought a second hand ryobi strimmer which works fine, only issue is the recommended 32-1 fuel mix. Bit of a pain as all my other equipment is the usual 50-1........it also seems a bit smoky,is the fuel mix the reason for this?
Anyway, the site old boy has informed me that as long as I use a quality oil..(stihl)....it'll be fine on 50-1,dont want to wreck it though, opinions appreciated.

It could be that its an older model and won't run well or could even suffer engine damage on the 50:1 mix which is more common these days - do you know the model of the machine?

In any case, any decent 2 stroke oil other than marine grade will be fine.

Don't listen to old boys who won't be paying for it's repair when it seizes.
The engineering tolerances are not the same, ryobi being a fraction of the cost of the equivalent Stihl machine. Use the recommended amount of oil, but buy a fully synthetic oil designed for air cooled engines and you should find it'll smoke less anyway.

Thanks for that.....I'll check the oil I'm using, and if it's not synthetic I'll try some! :)
