hello to all,can swedes be started in seed trays or do have to  be put in seed drills ,thanks.

You can start them in trays and transplant very carefully, personally I always sow direct.

But not for at least 2 months though.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

thanks for reply i seeded twice last year but got nothing,put it down to the rain,so this year i thought i might try seed trays.

I sow them in paper pots at the end of May beginning of June - werks fer me ;)

We have clubroot on our allotment, so I start mine in seed trays then move them onto 1" cells before planting out.

That way they have a decent head start before it kicks in.

Sowed mine in pots last year and planted out later with a good sprinkle of lime,  best swede yet!  don't know if it was a fluke but it seemed to work,  will do the same this time and sow a row of seed direct to see what happen's  :)
Optimism probably a gardeners best tool.

I sow in modules in May and plant out as soon as they look big enough. I might try some direct sown too this year though. I can always plug the gaps from the modules :D

Last year's swedes were the best I've had.
