poly tunnel cleaning
« on: December 11, 2014, 19:46 »
hi.

after a little advice of how to clean the exterior of my poly tunnel and what if any product i should use.

the outside of my tunnel has a green layer, even though it's not directly under any trees.

i'm a bit wary of scrubbing to hard with a wet brush in case it damages the polythene, but like was don't want to use any sort of product that will damage or cloud up the polythene.

any had any experience of cleaning polythene?

thanks.

All I've done is used a power washer on mine.

I used water with washing up liquid in it (not so much that the water was really sudsy) and old teatowels tied onto a soft broomhead, then rinsed off with clean water from the hosepipe: not turned on hard as otherwise you get soaked.

Got all the bird poop off, and general gunge alright. Mine is only a little tunnel, but it still took me nearly an hour though

I've used a power washer (not too successfully) in the past. The best I've found is a soft broom and water with washing-up liquid. The real problem is reaching to the middle.

thought it would be a job getting to the middle, i'm sure i'll find a way.

think i'll go with the fairy liquid. did any of you try leaving the fairy liquid and water to soak? i'm thinking giving it a quick scrub and not washing off, by time i get to the end the first bit would have soaked for a couple of hours. any know if fairy damages the polythene if left too long.

i've also got some oxygen bleach. i'm a massive fan of the stuff, but not tried it on polythene before.

think i'll play safe with the fairy and see how that goes first.

Fairy liquid has never caused damage to any of our poly boxes, so I would doubt if it will damage your cover  8)

I do the middle bit with a cloth or bit of old debris net soaked in warm water and pulled back and fro with the help of rope at each end and an helper. Like drying your back with a towel after a shower - the to and fro'ing is like drying your back I mean not the rope and helper bit.
