Title: Blue Smoke
Post by: beansticks on January 31, 2009, 14:16
HI Everyone, today i started my little Honda fg110 cultivator. It started fine, but i was not sure how much oil was in there. It is difficult to read the dipstick because it sits horizontally, anyway i turned it off and added some oil, restarted it and blue smoke billowed out of the exhaust.Did i put in too much oil?I have removed some of the oil and it appears to be okay, just want to check for the future really.Incidently i had not used it for 10 months.

blue smoke is allways an indicator that the engine is burning oil.
If you've removed a bit you won't have caused any damage if you've done it right away.
I always make sure the engine is level, before checking the oil, sometimes it means that I have to prop the machine up with some old bricks or bits of wood. :)
