HHH No 6 Some thing to do in the winter months.
« on: September 25, 2007, 20:37 »
Take a tape measure and measure the following. And write the answers down. 8)
The distance from your little finger to your outstretched thumb.
Then the distance from your finger tips to your elbow.
Your nose to your finger tips.
And last but not least measure your stride.

Why.

Because then you can use these measurements to acccurately pace out your plot. Or your seed beds.Or even the spacing between you rows and seeds.
Then you can cut out the guessing and do not need long tapes, drawings or such like. Your body becomes your tape measure and maybe all you need on those early mornings on the lottie next spring.

Everyones stride will be a little different.
My mate Shauns will be about the same as mine.
Big muntys a little longer.
Diggers a lot longer because of all his years of leg stretching
Richy the same because of all his leg pulling
And W_G will have a smaller stride because I have now seen his legs.
Some poor village is missing its Idiot
plus officially the longest ever occupier of the naughty step.

Actually, when I joined, there was a height restriction. Fortunately they didn't notice I had 70's platform heels on when they measured me. I'm waiting for them to become the vogue again to get my stride back. (And use the shoe & flares in my wardrobe).
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I still had a pair Digger until about 6 months ago.No one had told me they were no longer in fashion.I sent them down Muntys way to help train the sea scouts. 8)

If I am ever down in Milton Keynes, Henry, I'll go around all of the allotment sites until I find some daft b*gger with their nose in the ground and an outstretched arm ...

Top tip MkH.  We were told to do this at junior school so we could always get an approx measurement.

Nothing on my body measures 14 inches, so I draw a line on my arm from my fingertip, for say, planting sweet corn in blocks.  Once you get a row in, and one column you can do the rest by eye.

Also, measure the length of your welly boot.

If you put string over planted seeds, and you want to plant say every 6 inches. Wrap the string around a 6 inch piece of card. use blackmarker or tippex on the both edges, and when you stretch the string along the proposed planting line you have the markers there for you a) to help you sow, b) so you know where to expect the seeds to sprout.

That measurement is for bits of string etc IE. when making up Muntys bean frame,or for loads of other reasons, but now you mention it I have seen a sight or two with noses and arms on one or two plots.

And I thought it was going to be a complicated theory on Fibonacci

Still a very good tip MkH, but then they usually are.

And is your foot a foot ?
